SASA - veitchii |
Sasa veitchii is low-growing Japanese bamboo. Its small purple culms may only grow to 2 or 3 feet in the sun, while in semi-shade they may grow to 4 or 5 feet. The large dark green leaves turn a straw color around the border in the fall. Veitchii is at its best on a rainy, cloudy day when the leaves give a very striking appearance. SASAELLA - masamuneana albostriata
|
A great new little variegated bamboo with cream and dark green striped leaves. Reported to grow to a maximum height of 6 feet, although it usually has been observed growing to only 2 or 3 feet. Sasaella
seems to hold its striking variegation much better than most of the other little variegated bamboos, some of which fade later in the growing season to a plain green. Sasaella makes a fine specimen plant in the ground or container. Grows well in partial shade. Cold hardy to 0° F. |

SEMIARUNDINARIA - fastuosa
|
Narihira Bamboo is an exceptionally stately and beautiful bamboo. It grows to 25 feet in height and 1 ½ inches in diameter. A close branching habit results in beautiful plumes of leaves being formed at the tops of the culms. The culms are thin walled and turn shades of purple, rose or wine in full sun. Some culms turn a solid gold color which is quite striking with the dark green leaves. Narihira makes elegant high screens and windbreaks. Cold hardy to 0° F.

An exotic looking bamboo with unusual wide leaves. Erect growing okuboi may grow to 25 feet in height with diameters to 1 1/2 inches. A good grower, it produces a thick mass of culms and leaves. We would rate the growth of okuboi as vigorous, which should make it a fine background or screening plant. It is cold hardy to 0° F. |
