Arundinaria - amabilis, Tonkin cane, Teastick Bamboo
A beautiful erect growing bamboo widely known for its high quality wood. The source of wood for the famous split bamboo flyrods of "Tonkin Bamboo". Tonkin bamboo has large bright green leaves on short erect growing brances. A native of a limited mountainous area in Southern China, it has grown to a confirmed height of 40 feet in the coastal areas of the southeast.

Arundinaria - funghomii
A handsome bamboo. Grows to 30 feet but stays 4' to 6' in cooler climates. It has long internodes with striations.

Indocalamus - Solidus
A beautiful, large leafed bamboo that will grow well in semi-shade. It is an early sprouter. Its small culms are solid. Solidus makes a beautiful dark green screen. Grows to 7'.

Indocalamus - tessellatus (sasa tessellata)
A small bamboo whose small, purple culms bend under the weight of huge glossy, green leaves. Tessellatus has the largest leaves of any bamboo, 24 inches in length and 4 inches in width when grown in semi-shade and good soil. It makes a very impressive ground cover with its mounds of large leaves. Very limited supply.

Phyllostachys - angusta, Stone Bamboo, "Sah Chu"
Stone Bamboo was obtained at Tang-Si, Cheking Province, China in 1907 by plant explorer Frank N. Meyer. Angusta is one the smaller members of the family, growing to about 22 feet in height with diameters of 1 ¼ inches. "Sah Chu" has a very high quality wood which is used in furniture making. With its small size culms that turn yellow-gold in the sun along with its medium green leaves, stone bamboo makes a good garden bamboo.

Phyllostachys - arcana
Introduced into the U.S in 1926 from Pesez-kung Monastery, Anhwei Province, China. A rare and very beautiful bamboo which reaches 27 feet in height with diameters to 1 ¼ inches. Older culms are almost half-black on the lower portion where they have been exposed to full sunlight. Tends to zig-zag in the basal area and sometimes the upper part of culms will develop sinuous curves. Its short branches filled with bright green leaves combined with the half black culms make it a very impressive bamboo.

Phyllostachys - atrovaginata formerly known as P. Congesta
A stiffly erect, very distinctive bamboo from Chekiang Province, China. Its culms have prominent nodes and reach 25 feet in heigh and 2 ¼ inches in diameter. Its edible young shoots are among those having the least bite when raw.

Phyllostachys - aurea, Fishpole Bamboo; Golden Bamboo
May grow 30 feet in an established grove. Grows to about 15 feet when confined to a small area. A fast spreader. Excellent for screens and hedges. Has a very high quality wood. The joints (Nodes) grow close together at the base of the culm (Cane) giving an attractive tortoise-shell pattern. Although a native of China, P.,aurea is widely grown and well known all across the United States for the fine "Fishin Poles" it makes. A low branching habit coupled with fast spreading make it valuable for wildlife cover as well as hedges and erosion control. Very good in planters

Phyllostachys - aurea 'flavescens-inversa'
Flavescens-inversa is a rare form of the better known and popular "fishpole bamboo". It has green culms with a yellowsulcus (groove). Growing in full sun, inversa is a very attractive bamboo with bright green leaves and a low branching habit. The culms have the distorted close crowded nodes near the base, which is very attractive and makes good handles for walking sticks, canes and staffs. It will grow to about 27 feet in height and reach almost 2 inches in diameter in good conditions. It is cold hardy to 0° F.

Phyllostachys - aureosulcata, Yellow Groove Bamboo
Grows to 33 feet in height. The groove (Sulcus) is yellow in color. Some culms grow in zig-zag manner at the base. Yellow Groove forms a beautiful grove with mature culms an olive green color which retain the yellow color on the sulcus alternating between the nodes.Very cold hardy. Has been grown in Washington D.C.

Phyllostachys- aureosulcata spectabilis
A beautiful medium size bamboo with yellow-cream colored culms and a green sulcus (groove). Highly ornamental and still rare. Spectabilis may show some wine coloration at sheath fall in the spring. A few white stripes can occasionally be found on the leaves. It will grow to 28 feet in height and nearly 2 inches in diameter. It is cold hardy to -10° F.

Phyllostachys - bambusoides, Japanese Timber Bamboo
A giant bamboo growing to 70 feet and reaching 6 inches in diameter at maturity under ideal growing conditions. The wood is of excellent quality. Growing unrestricted it will form a forest of dark-green culms.

Phyllostachys Bambusoides - Castillon
Castillon is a beautiful cultivar of P. bambusoides. It flowered several years ago and was re-introduced in the U.S. Highly desirable as an ornamental bamboo- one of the best. Grows to 35' and a 2" dia.

Phyllostachys - bambusoides cv. Slender Crookstem
A rare cultivar of the Giant Phyllostachys bambusoides Bamboo. Introduced into the U.S. in 1925 from Kwangtung Province, China. Slender Crookstem has a tendency to curve in a serpentine manner in the basal area for 2 or 3 feet, then resumes normal straight growth. Its culms are more slender than the typical form and may grow to 48 feet in height
